Luminous Mysteries

I. Before beginning his public ministry, Jesus is baptized by John at the Jordan. The Spirit descends upon him and the Father declares him the beloved Son. Let us ask for the grace to live our baptismal promises (see Mt 3:13–17; Mk 1:9–11; Lk 3:15–22).

Fruit: Single-hearted following of Christ.
Intention: For all the baptized and those preparing for Baptism.

II. At the request of his Mother, Mary, who is concerned for the newlyweds, Jesus reveals his glory at the wedding of Cana, changing water into wine. Let us ask for the grace of trust (see Jn 2:1–12).

III. Jesus proclaims the good news of the Kingdom of God and calls us to conversion. He especially seeks out those who have strayed and are in most need of his mercy. Let us ask for the grace to overcome sin (see Mt 4:12–17; Mk 1:14–15; 2:3–13; Lk 4:14–22: 7:47–48; Jn 9:5; 20:22–23).

Intention: For evangelizers and missionaries.

IV. In the presence of the apostles Peter, James, and John, Jesus is transfigured on Mount Tabor.

The glory of the Godhead radiates from him and the Father’s voice says, “This is my Son . . . listen to him.” Let us ask for the grace to be attentive to God (see Mt 17:1–8; Mk 9: 2–8; Lk 9:28–36; Jn 1:29–34).

V. In his love for us and his desire to remain with us, Jesus institutes the Eucharist as the sacramental presence of the Paschal Mystery. Let us ask for an always deeper love of the Eucharist (see Mt 26:26–29; Mk 14:22–25; Lk 22:15–20; Jn 6:51–58; 13:1–16).
