SAINT PAUL VI, POPE

Obligatory Memorial for the Pauline Family

Giovanni Battista Montini was born in Concesio (Brescia), Italy, on 26 September 1897. He was ordained priest on 29 May 1920. In 1954 he was appointed Archbishop of Milan. Elected Supreme Pontiff on 21 June 1963, he successfully concluded the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council. He fully understood the mission of the Pauline Family and expressed his appreciation and affection for our Founder, Blessed James Alberione in these words, “Always intent on scrutinizing the signs of the times, that is, the most ingenious ways of reaching souls”. He visited Fr James Alberione on 26 November 1971, a few hours before the latter’s death. Pope Paul VI died on 6 August 1978. At the request of the Superiors General, the Holy See (with the Decree of 3 February 2020, prot. No. 8/20) has granted that the annual memorial becomes obligatory for the Pauline Family.
