Saturday after the Ascension of the Lord
MARY, QUEEN OF THE APOSTLES
Feast (Solemnity for the Apostoline Sisters)
“The feast of the Queen of the Apostles was established on the first Saturday after the Ascension* by the Sacred Congregation of Rites at the request of the Pallottine Fathers. Mary initiated her mission as Queen of the Apostles in the Cenacle. She gathered the Apostles together, she comforted them, and assisted them in prayer. Together with them she hoped, desired and prayed; with them her petitions were heeded and she received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost” (Alberione, Feste di Maria, 3rd ed., Albano, 1954, p.68).
“The first devotion we find in the Church is devotion to the Queen of the Apostles, as expressed in the Cenacle. It lessened a bit and became obscure with the passing of the centuries. We have the sweet mission of gathering the faithful around Mary, Queen of the Apostles. We are to reawaken this devotion.
We are to fulfil this most delightful mission in the Church… Let us return to the sources” (Alberione, Haec Meditare). * Since the Feast of Ascension may be celebrated either on Thursday of the
6th week of Easter or on 7th Sunday of Easter, the Feast of Mary Queen of Apostles is to be fixed for Saturday before Pentecost Sunday.
