Christ, have mercy.

All: Christ, have mercy.

Cel:  Lord Jesus,, you are the Good Shepherd, leading us to everlasting life:
Lord, have mercy.

All: Lord have mercy.

Cel: May almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life.
All: Amen.

The Gloria is sung or said.

Collect

O Almighty and eternal God, you deigned to send your only-begotten Son as the Teacher of the world.
Mercifully grant that, being filled with his doctrine, we may understand better the divine truths. Through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

First Reading

A Reading from the Book of Deuteronomy  (18:15-19)

(The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet. Him you shall heed.)

Moses said to the people: the Lord, your God, will raise up for you a prophet like myself from your midst, from among your own people, to him you shall listen. Remember all that you asked of the Lord, your God, at Horeb, on the day of the Assembly, when you said: ‘I am afraid to die and I do not want to hear the voice of the Lord, my God, again or have sight again of that raging fire.’ So the Lord said to me: ‘They have spoken well. I shall raise up a prophet from their midst, one of their brothers, who will be like you. I will put my words into his mouth and he will enjoin on them all that I command. If someone does not listen to my words when the prophet speaks on my behalf, I myself will call him to account for it. The Word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
(Ps 25:4-5;10:12-15)

Response:  Lord, make me know your ways.
Lord, teach me your paths.

Direct me in your ways, Yahweh,
and teach me your paths.
Encourage me to walk in your truth and teach me
since you are the God who saves me. R/.

Kindness unfailing and constancy mark all Yahweh’s paths,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees. R/.

Men who respect Yahweh, what of them?
He teaches them the way they must choose.
Neighbours to happiness will they live,
and their children inherit the land. R/.

Permanently my eyes are on Yahweh,
For he will free my feet from the snare. R/.

Second Reading

A Reading from the Second Letter of St Peter  (1:16-19)

(This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased.)

Indeed, what we taught you about the power and the return of Christ Jesus our Lord was not drawn from myths or formulated theories. We ourselves were eyewitnesses of his majesty, when he received glory and honour from God the Father, when from the magnificent glory this most extraordinary word came upon him: “This is my Son, my Chosen One.” We ourselves heard this voice from heaven when we were with him on the holy mountain. Therefore, we believe most firmly in the message of the prophets which you should consider rightly as a lamp shining in a dark place until the break of day, when the morning star shines in your hearts. The Word of the Lord.

Acclamation

Alleluia! Alleluia!
I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, says the Lord.
No one goes to the Father except through me.
Alleluia! (Jn 14:6)

Gospel

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew  (23:1-10)

(You have one Father in heaven. You have one Master the Christ.)

Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees occupy the seat of Moses. Listen and do all they say, but do not imitate what they do, for they do not practise what they teach. They bind up heavy burdens that are hard to carry, and lay them on the shoulders of the people. But they themselves will not even raise a finger to move them. They do everything in order to be seen by people; so they wear very wide bands around their foreheads, and robes with large tassels. They like to occupy the first places at feasts and reserved seats in the synagogues; they also enjoy being greeted in the marketplace and being called ‘Rabbi’ by the people. But do not let yourselves be called ‘Rabbi’ because you have only one Master, and all of you are brothers. Neither should you call anyone on earth Father, for you have only one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor should you be called Teacher, because Christ is the only Teacher for you. The Gospel of the Lord.

Homily

The Creed is said.

Prayer over the Offerings

Accept, Lord, the bread and the wine we offer you with joy for the Eucharistic sacrifice, and make us a pure offering for the praise of your glory.
Through Christ, our Lord.

Preface
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right and just.
Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks.
You have sent into this world your only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and teacher of eternal truths.
By teaching us the way of truth and the mysteries of eternal life he constituted himself the Apostle of our faith, and by instituting the infallible magisterium of the Church he became eternally the Doctor of truth and peace to all.
And so with all the angels and saints we proclaim your glory and join in their unending hymn of praise:

All: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts …
