In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God;
all things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be through him was life,
and the life was the light of men,
and the light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness did not overcome it.
There was a man sent by God named John. He came as a witness to bear witness concerning the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light but came to bear witness concerning the light. It was the true light that enlightens every man that was coming into the world.
p. 82He was in the world, and the world came to be
through him,
yet the world did not know him.
He came to his own home,
Yet his own people did not receive him.
But all who did receive him, to them he gave the power to become sons of God, to those who believe in his name, those who were born, not of blood nor of the will of flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
And the Word became flesh
and dwelt among us,
and we saw his glory,
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,
full of grace and truth.
John bore witness concerning him and cried out, saying, “This was the one of whom I said, ‘The one who’s coming after me is above me, because he was before me.’”
For we have all received of his fullness,
and grace upon grace,
for the Torah was given through Moses,
grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
No one has ever seen God;
the only begotten Son of God,
who is in the bosom of the Father,
he has revealed him.
